2005 Ford Escape Hybrid comes with 300-volt nickel-metal-hydride battery, 2.3-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with 65kW electric assist motor and a 28 kW generator. It gives 35-40 mpg better then conventional V-6-powered cars without compromising on performance.

At red light a conventional car just creates waste** emissions, where as Ford Hybrid engine shuts down its engine when at rest. While starting the generater starts the car with very low emission. The battries are charged when car is running and energy is restored when brakes are applied. Thus helping the power plants too :) .
